Biography
Born in 1908 in Haarlem . Since 1928, went in for cycling. In 1931 he became the champion of the Netherlands. In the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he became the champion in the sprint and won the silver medal in the gita from 1 km away, and in fourth place took the tandem. In 1933 he became the world champion in amateur sprint.
In 1934 he became a professional. In 1934-1936 he became the champion of the Netherlands among professionals. In 1938, he opened a vegetable shop, subsequently switched to a launderette. In 1954, he opened the “Café van Egmond” in his native Haarlem, which after his death in 1969 continued to be controlled by his son.
