Initially, she studied painting in the years 1908–10 in the Sunday classes of the Stroganov School and the school of F. I. Rerberg . Then she continued her studies in Munich in the studio of G. Tatlin on Ostozhenka, participated in the exhibitions of the Union of Youth, Jack of Diamonds , World of Art and others.
In 1913 she married the artist A. R. Diderichs and left for Petrograd . Until 1918, Valentina Khodasevich worked only as a portrait painter (in particular, wrote portraits of Maxim Gorky, with whom she was friendly, and V. F. Khodasevich), then began working as a theater artist. Her first work in 1919 was the design of the play “The Tree of Transformations” by N. S. Gumilyov in the Studio of the Petrograd Theater Department. Then she decorated the solemn festivities in Petrograd, the “Poet's Cafe” in Nastasiinsky Lane in Moscow and the Pittoresc Cafe on Kuznetsky Most Street. In 1918–1922 she worked at the Theater of People's Comedy S. E. Radlova, designed the performances in the 1st Studio of the Moscow Art Theater. In 1924–1927 she lived in Europe, including at M. In 1934 her personal exhibition took place in the House of Theater Workers in Leningrad. [2]
During World War II she worked in Perm and Tashkent . In 1945 she returned to Leningrad. From 1953 she again lived in Moscow. Having designed about one hundred and fifty performances and numbers, since 1956, Khodasevich left the theater and engaged in literary activities, wrote a book of memoirs "Portraits of words." As a graphic artist, she performed theater posters and illustrations for the books of Maxim Gorky.
She died in 1970 in Moscow, was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery . Her works are kept in museums in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities of the country, as well as in private collections in Russia and abroad.
