Coalition on Homelessness publishes a newspaper that vendors sell on the streets of San Francisco, usually in exchange for a donation of one dollar [2] .

History

Street Sheet has been announced by its publisher Coalition on Homelessness as the longest continuously published newspaper covering the problems of homeless people in the world, although Street News in New York was published at the same time. Together, they laid the foundation for similar newspapers in more than 30 countries, including the British “ Big Issue ”, the “ Spare Change News ” in Boston, and the “ Real Change ” in Seattle [3] .

The publisher of Street Sheet, Coalition on Homelessness, was founded in 1987 to fight for the rights of the homeless. In the fall of 1989, employees of the organization decided that they needed a newsletter. The first newsletter was released in December 1989 and mailed to a handful of lawyers, shelter workers and health care providers who worked with the coalition [4] .

In 1993, the millionth copy was sold. The newspaper prints 17,000 copies every two weeks, each poor newspaper and homeless people sell for $ 1. Street Sheet has 240 sellers who use the newspaper as a source of income.
