Maria Johanna Philipsen-Braun ( Netherlands. Maria Johanna Philipsen-Braun , June 22, 1911 - June 23, 1982 ) is a Dutch swimmer, Olympic champion and European champion.

Biography
Born in 1911 in Rotterdam ; her mother (also called Maria Brown) was a famous swimming coach. In 1927, she won the gold and two silver medals of the European Championship. In 1928, at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam, she became a champion at a distance of 100 m on her back, and won a silver medal at a distance of 400 m in freestyle. In 1931, she won three gold medals at the European Championships. In 1932 she took part in the Los Angeles Olympics , but before the finals she was hospitalized with a fever. After that, her sports career ended.
