Herman, Ludomil

Ludomil German ( Polish Ludomił German ; September 16, 1851 , Dobczyce - January 21, 1920 , Lviv ) - Polish playwright , librettist , literary critic , translator , political and public figure.

Biography

In 1877-1906 he worked in the public education system. In 1905-1908 - Chairman of the Literary Society. Miscavige.

Liberal politician. Since 1907 he was elected to the Austrian parliament. Ambassador (deputy) of the Galician Regional Sejm of two convocations (since 1910). In 1914, he joined the Eastern Section of the Galician Main National Committee from democratic forces.

Author of dramas (HKT, Gdzie szczęście ?, both staged in 1898) and opera libretto (Goplana, Janek), a number of critical articles on literature and art (O dramatach Józefa Szujskiego, Przegląd Polski ", 1888).

The first in Poland to translate from German into his native language, " Song of the Nibelungs " ( "Niedola Nibelungów" , Warsaw, 1884).

In 1904 he became an honorary citizen of the city of Nowy Targ .

Father of Juliusz German , writer and playwright.

He died in Lviv. He was buried at Lychakiv cemetery .
