Quinteros, Gustavo

Gustavo Domingo Quinteros Desabato ( Spanish: Gustavo Domingo Quinteros Desábato ; born February 15, 1965, Santa Fe ) is a former Argentine-Bolivian footballer who played as a defender. After the player’s career ended, he became a coach.

Club career

During his career as a professional footballer (from 1987 to 1998), Kinteros managed to play for the Argentinean clubs “ Taglieres ” from Remedios de Escalada, “ San Lorenzo ”, “ Argentinos Juniors ” and the Bolivian teams “ Universitario ” from Sucre , Strongest , and San Jose Oruro .

Team appearances

For the Bolivian national team, Kinteros played 26 matches and scored 1 goal, including 2 meetings at the 1994 World Cup . Kinteros scored his only goal for the national team in a friendly (3: 1) match against Honduras on January 29, 1993, when he opened the scoring in a match at Felix Capriles Stadium ( Cochabamba ).

Coaching career

After completing his football career, Kinteros began working as a trainer at the youth academy of the Argentine club San Lorenzo . In 2003, he served for some time as the head coach of San Lorenzo.

In 2005, he moved to Bolivia. to lead the local Blooming , which he was able to lead to the league title in the very first season. This success led to his invitation to become the head coach of the Argentine San Martin team from San Juan, who then played in the second division of Argentina , and who, as a result of that season, received a ticket to the elite division.

In 2007, he returned to Blooming, a team in which he made his coaching reputation and won the love of fans. In January 2009, when his contract expired, Kinteros transferred to work at the Bolivar club, which leads to victory in Aperture 2009. Due to some disagreements with the president, Kinteros left the club at the end of the year.

In January 2010, he led the Oriente Petrolero , who, under his leadership, won in Klausur 2010. On November 5, 2010, Kinteros was appointed head coach of the Bolivian national team . On July 3, 2012, Kinteros presented his letter of resignation and convened a press conference to announce his imminent departure from the national team [1] [2] .

On July 9, 2012, Kinteros was officially introduced as the new head coach of the Ecuadorian club Emelek [3] . On September 14, 2017, he was fired from the Ecuador national team, due to poor results in the qualification of the 2018 World Cup.
