Story

Pavel Voskovoi, a country boy from Gulyaevo, entered the first year of the pedagogical institute. Before registration in the hostel he is asked to go to the dean's office. There, a certain person conducts a conversation with him - he says that he noticed Pavel a long time ago that he was a “serious guy” and not a “dumbbell”. This man asks Paul to watch some students and collect “information”. As they plot a crime, Paul agrees to help.

It turned out that last year a group of students wrote a letter to the ministry demanding the replacement of a "semi-literate" rector. A commission came to the institute, but then the case was released on the brakes. Two students were expelled from the institute after this event. Nevertheless, there is an “opinion” that they have not calmed down and are planning a new campaign this year, which is already more serious than just a letter to the ministry.

Paul meets these students and enters their circle. He learns that their new action is to blow up the Volga of the rector and set his cottage on fire. Pavel tells this to his "curator" Vadim, but does not disclose the date of this action. Not knowing the exact date, Vadim can not do anything on the merits. Then he tells Paul his story. It turns out that he is not from a " solid organization ", he is just the son of this very rector, he used Paul to help his old father. Paul faces a dilemma. He is an honest man and has entered into trust in these students, if he tells the details of their action, they will be “covered” and he will turn out to be a snitch . In another case, the old rector will suffer ...
