Biography
Born in 1903 in Kotselevi near Sabac, in the family of Ivan Dzhorzhevich and Angelina (nee Rakic). After graduating from primary school in his native place, he arrived in Belgrade , where he graduated from high school. After that, he graduated from the Theological Seminary in Sremsky Karlovtsy .
On March 31, 1924, in the Monastery, Kalenich was tonsured as a monk by Archimandrite Nikon (Lazarevich), and soon Bishop Branichevsky of Mitrofan (Raich) was elevated to the rank of hierarch . In 1925, Bishop Hornaroklovatsky Hilarion (Zeremsky) was elevated to the rank of hieromonk [1] in Plashka in Lika. Spent some time in the Monastery Vrdnik on Fruszskaya mountain .
In 1930 he graduated from the Theological Faculty of the University of Belgrade [1] .
He was the head of the monastic school in the High Decani Monastery , and then the abbot of the same monastery.
During the Second World War, he worked in Yagodina as a professor in a teacher’s school.
In 1945, he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite and for some time was abbot of the Rakovica Monastery near Belgrade .
On May 22, 1947, he was elected Bishop [2] . On June 2, 1947, he was consecrated as bishop of Budimlyansk-Polimsk in the Cathedral Church in Belgrade. Patriarch of Serbia Gabriel , Metropolitan of Skopsky Josephus (Tsviovich) and Bishop of Zletovsko-Strumitsky Vikenty (Prodanov) [3] made Patriarchal consecration.
As there was no bishop there for several centuries, he was at the beginning faced with problems with accommodation and adaptation. Stayed there for 8 years. In 1956, the Budim-Polimsk diocese was abolished.
In 1955 he was transferred to the Diocese of Srems [1] . There he was expected a lot of difficulties caused by the Second World War. Many churches were destroyed or damaged, monastic dwellings were burned down, parish houses were nationalized. During the war, many priests and monks died [4] .
He died on March 22, 1978 after a long illness at the Pokrainsky hospital in Novi Sad . He was buried in the monastery Krushedolu [1] .
