Earl of Selborn in Southampton County is a hereditary title in the United Kingdom Peersty system. It was created in 1882 for the attorney and liberal politician Roundell Palmer, 1st Baron Selborn (1812–1895), along with the additional Viscount Volmer title from Blackmore in Southampton . In 1872, he received the title of Baron Selborn from Selborn in Southampton ( United Kingdom ). His son, William Waldegrave Palmer, 2nd Earl of Selborn, and grandson, Roundell Cecil Palmer, 3rd Earl of Selborn, were prominent liberal-unionist politicians . In 1941, Rowland Cesel Palmer received the title of Baron Selborn and became a member of the House of Lords .
In 1971, John Roundell Palmer, 4th Earl of Selborn (born 1940 ), the son of William Matthew Palmer, Viscount Volmer, and grandson of the 3rd Earl of Selborn , inherited the title. He is one of the 90 elected hereditary peers who remained in the House of Lords after the adoption of the Peers Act in 1999 , he is a member of the conservative party .
The family residence is Temple Manor near the village of Selborn in Hampshire .
