Biography
In 1975 he graduated from Cornell University , and then spent a year as a graduate student at the astronomy faculty of Princeton University . From there, he was transferred to the graduate school of the Faculty of Physics at Harvard University , from which he graduated in 1980, receiving a Ph.D. degree in physics. Taubes' thesis was devoted to the structure of static Euclidean gauge fields ( eng. The Structure of Static Euclidean Gauge Fields ).
The first achievement of the scientist, obtained in 1978 in graduate school, was the proof of the existence of solutions of vortex equations from the Ginzburg-Landau model for superconducting vortices.
In 2009, together with Simon Donaldson, he was awarded the Shao Prize for his stunning contribution to the geometry of three- and four-dimensional space ( Eng. 3 ). [1] .
