Biography

From the nobility of the Moscow province. He studied (since 1797) in the Noble guesthouse . Produced by students of Moscow University (1799). He studied at the philosophical and law faculties of Moscow University . At the university, he attended lectures at the Faculty of Philosophy and Law , studied Greek, Latin, French, German and English. He was friends with M.V. Milonov and Z. A. Burinsky .

In 1802, he began to put poems in the "News of Russian Literature." In 1805, Mr .. was approved by the master, and in 1807 - Doctor of Philosophy, for the thesis: "Illustratio Mythi de Pandore, et operum antiquae artis ad eum spectantium" (M., 1806).

He worked in the Journal of Fine Arts , Herald of Europe , Russian Herald and Journal de la société des naturalistes de Moscou . Published: “Tables of Latin Grammar” (M., 1809; 2nd ed. St. Petersburg, 1817); “Rules, selected thoughts and examples of lat. with a short dictionary ”(M., 1807); "Latin grammar" , according to Breeder (M. 1811; 11th ed. 1844) and "Flowers Greek. poetry ” , with text, remarks and translation in verse (M., 1811).

From 1811 to 1828 he was a professor of Russian and Latin literature at Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum; there he read the history of fine arts according to Winkelmann and was the secretary of the conference. Koshansky enjoyed a reputation as a good professor. According to the testimony of one of his students, J.K. Grotto , lyceum students listened to his stories and readings while teaching him Latin and Russian literature. Since 1824, Koshansky was the director of the Institute of the Blind.

Koshansky compiled “General Rhetoric” (St. Petersburg, 1818; 10th ed. 1849) and “Private Rhetoric” (St. Petersburg, 1832; 7th ed. 1849), over which several generations studied.

According to the ESB :

These courses, at one time, were useful: Koshansky sets out the subject quite lively, gives a lot of information on logic and aesthetics, illustrating his instructions with numerous passages from ancient and new writers.

In addition, Koshansky is the author of a number of translations.
