Biography

Medina Alekperzade was born on January 17, 1926 in Baku. In 1938, she moved with her family to the city of Ardabil in Iranian Azerbaijan . Since 1947, she lived in exile, was an active participant in the movement for national freedom and democracy of South Azerbaijan (1941–46). Since 1945, she was a member of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan [1] . By education a philologist. It began to be published in 1945 [2] . In 1945, poems by Medina Gyulgyun were published in Tabriz in the newspapers "On the Way to the Homeland" and "Azerbaijan" [3] .

He is the author of poems and poems on themes of love for the motherland, the liberation war of the peoples of Iran, including the peoples of South Azerbaijan, including the books “Tabriz Spring” ( 1950 ), “Daughter of Tabriz” ( 1956 ), “Poems” ( 1962 ), “Song of my memories” ( 1969 ), “Tomorrow of our world” ( 1974 ), “Dream is also life” ( 1976 ), “Sails of my hopes” ( 1981 ) [1] . He is the author of the words of the song “ You have not come ” (music by Alekper Tagiyev ) [4] .

Medina Gulgyun translated a number of verses into Azerbaijani. Gulgyun's works were translated into Russian and other languages ​​of the peoples of the USSR, as well as into foreign languages.

She was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor [1] .

In 1987, the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Azerbaijan SSR awarded Medina Gyulgyun for the merits in the field of literature and culture, the honorary title of Honored Art Worker of the Azerbaijan SSR [5] .

Medina Gyulgyun was married to the famous Azerbaijani poet from Iranian Azerbaijan, the national poet of Azerbaijan Balash Azeroglu [6] .

Medina Gyulgyun died on February 17, 1992 [3] . In 2012, her personal belongings, along with her husband’s personal belongings, were transferred to the Azerbaijan Independence Museum [3] .
