George Steers ( August 15, 1819 - September 25, 1856 ) - American yacht designer, designer of the famous yacht " America ", which won the "Cup of a hundred guineas" - one of the most honorable cups in sailing.

He was the son of Henry Steers, one of the leading American shipbuilders. At sixteen, he built the sloop Martin von Boren, who defeated the Gladiator yacht, considered the fastest in its class, in the regatta. Three years later, he built a 37-ton yacht Manhattan.
In the yacht "America" he developed and applied a revolutionary solution for that time in terms of contours of the hull.
George Steers and Co. founded the shipyard with his brother.
Died as a result of an accident in the execution of a contract for the construction of a yacht for the Russian Tsar Alexander II .
