The dictionary of Russian onomastic terminology is the first Russian explanatory dictionary of onomastic terms, on which all modern researchers of Russian onomastics rely in their works. It was first published in 1978 under the editorship of the famous linguist, Russian onomastics classic AV Superanskaya (1929–2013). Onomastics as an independent science was formed only in the middle of the XX century. Over the past six decades, onomastic theory has developed, methods and techniques for analyzing onomastic material have been developed, and ideas on the composition of onymia and system-structural relations in onomastic have been defined. N. V. Podolskaya’s vocabulary made a decisive contribution to the formation and development of Russian onomastic terminology.

The book contains about 700 terms and is a branch linguistic monolingual explanatory dictionary . In it, all terms are set out in a system based on a hierarchy of named objects, with a large number of explanations and examples. Foreign language equivalents are given to many terms. The classification and systematization of terms. The main criteria for assessing the quality of onomastic terminology are formulated:
- a) conciseness in the creation of (one, two or even tribasic) terms (for example, hydro fonimonim);
- b) Greek or Latin in the basis of the term.
Typical morphemes for one-word onomastic terms are defined.
- -th (set of names): hydronymy ;
- -ika (science section): hydronym ika ;
- -hist (researcher): hydr onim ist ;
- -Ikon (list or dictionary): hydr onim icons ;
- -ation , -isation (process): hydronimization (lexical units);
- de- (prefix) + -ization or -ation (for the reverse process): dehydration ;
- -icic (derivative adjective): hydronymic (from hydronymic );
- -ny : hydronym (from hydronym).
- -ika (science section): hydronym ika ;
The dictionary ends with an alphabetical index and an index of phrases that are close to terminological, but not included in the dictionary. The entire circulation (35.7 thousand copies) was sold in the year of release. The dictionary was reprinted in 1988 with a circulation of 23 thousand copies [1] .

Review
According to the Russian linguist Professor V.I. Suprun , in any approach to creating a terminological dictionary, the vocabulary should be compiled taking into account the developments of N. V. Podolskaya, another presentation of the material will confuse onomastic terminology. Only a careful attitude to this well-known throughout the world directory will ensure continuity in the development of science [2] .
