Unlike previous continental championships that took place in August-September, the current one was held in May due to the fact that from the end of August 2015 there will be a World Cup , in which two of the strongest teams at the end of the Asian Championship 2015 will take part - Chinese national teams and South Korea .
Member Teams
Australia , Vietnam , Hong Kong , India , Iran , Kazakhstan , China , Mongolia , Thailand , Taiwan , Philippines , Sri Lanka , South Korea , Japan .
The initially declared teams of Turkmenistan and Fiji refused to participate.
Qualification System
One place was guaranteed by the team of the host country (China), 10 tickets were distributed according to the results of the previous championship (Thailand, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Taiwan, Iran, Australia, India, the Philippines) and 5 more places were given to representatives (from among not yet qualified) of the five zone associations of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (Hong Kong - from the East Asian, Sri Lanka - from the Central Asian Association, Fiji - from Oceania). There were no applications for participation from West and Southeast Asia and two vacancies were provided to the national teams of Mongolia and Turkmenistan.
Championship System
At the first stage, 14 participating teams were divided into four groups, in which the teams played in one round. The primary criterion for the distribution of seats was the total number of victories, then the number of points scored, the ratio of parties, the ratio of game points, the results of personal meetings. For victories with a score of 3: 0 and 3: 1, teams received 3 points, for victories 3: 2 - 2 points, for a defeat 2: 3 - 1 point, for defeats 1: 3 and 0: 3 points were not awarded. 8 teams (two best from each group) reached the second stage, where they formed two groups of 4 teams. The results of team games among themselves at the first stage were taken into account. According to the final places in the groups of the second stage, all its participants were divided into pairs in the quarter finals of the playoffs. The winners of the pairs reached the semifinals and played the 1st-4th places. The final 5-8th places also in the elimination system were played by losers in the 1/4 finals.
According to a similar system, the 9th – 14th places were played by the teams that took the 3rd – 4th places in the first stage groups. The only exception was the lack of a quarter-final stage.
