Biography
Born in 1897 in the Netherlands East Indies . In 1921 he graduated from Leiden University . Shortly thereafter, he became vice president of Fokker , which, due to restrictions imposed by the Versailles Peace Treaty, was forced to transfer activities from Germany to the Netherlands, took part in the development of the first large commercial aircraft. In 1926, he opened his own company in New York .
In 1920, Johan Karp took part in the Olympic Games in Antwerp , where he won a gold medal in the 6.5-meter R-class with his brother Bernard and Petrus Werninka on the Oranje yacht. In 1924, he took part in the Olympic Games in Paris , where he won a bronze medal in the 6-meter class with Willem Six, along with Antony Geipin and Jan Wrede. In 1936, Johan Karp took part in the Olympic Games in Berlin , also in the 6-meter class, on the yacht “De Ruyter”, but this time his yacht finished only in the 8th.
Subsequently, Johan Karp emigrated to South Africa.
