History
In the 2000s, Ukrainian enterprises developed projects for the conversion of GAZ-66 army trucks into cross-country vehicles (SKB "VEPR" designed the VEPR SUV, the Sevastopol Automobile Repair Plant - a heavy jeep "Shaman").
In November 2008, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced its intention to create a Ukrainian-made SUV to replace Soviet-made and Russian-made UAZ vehicles in the armed forces. Initially, it was planned to start production of Ukrainian SUVs at the Kremenchug Automobile Plant [3] (the work on creating the Ukrainian analogue of the HMMWV was called the D041 Step project [4] , but this decision was not implemented.
Due to the lack of a state order, the serial production of Shaman SUVs was not started (although the possibility of organizing their production at auto repair enterprises of the Tekhvoenservice state concern was assumed).
Options and Modifications
In total, 4 Shaman cars were manufactured.
The first samples of the Shaman SUV were produced with a six-seater cab made using parts from the ZIL-131 cab and an onboard tilt body, but in January 2009, an altered version was presented at the Kiev auto show - with a four-door cab made using parts from Ural-4320 cabins and an all-metal wagon [2] .
September 24, 2014 at the exhibition "Zbroya and bezpeka- 2014, the Leninskaya Kuznitsa plant introduced yet another version of the GAZ-66 re-equipment - the Scorpion combat vehicle with the OBM combat module, which had some design differences (in particular, in the design of the engine compartment) [5] , however, serial production the car was not started.
Operator countries
- Ukraine - one machine was transferred to the naval infantry battalion of the Ukrainian Navy [1] , in 2014 another shaman jeep was transferred to the Nikolaev Special Forces Battalion of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine “Nikolaev” [6]
