Career
Octavio Fantoni was born into a famous football family: his two siblings, Leonisio and Orlando, were footballers, and his cousin, Octavio , also played football. They were of the same age, therefore, in order to distinguish between brothers they began to be called by numbers; João became Fantoni I, Ninho - Fantoni II, Nijinho - Fantoni III, and Orlando - Fantoni IV. Ninao began his career in 1923 [1] the club " Palestra Italy " from his native Belo Horizonte . There he played 4 seasons, having spent 112 matches and scoring 156 goals. He won three Minas Gerais championships and in these three raffles he became the top scorer of the tournament three times. On June 17, 1928, Ninao scored 10 goals in one match, one after another hitting the gates of Alves Nogueira club [2] ; this result is still a record for Cruzeiro [1] .
In 1930, Juan, along with Octavio, moved to the Italian " Lazio ". He made his team debut on April 26, 1931 in a match with Napoli , in which his club lost 0: 1. In total, in the first season he spent 10 games and scored 6 goals. In total, the football player played for the club for 5 years, having spent 113 games and scoring 38 goals. In one of the games, December 24, 1933, Fantoni broke a fibula , because of which he could not walk for two months. In 1935, he, together with Leonisio , who came to the club a year later, returned to Brazil. The reason for this was the military call launched in the country due to the war in Ethiopia [3] , as well as the tragic death of Octavio.
Returning to Brazil, Juan played a little more in "Palest". And in 1942 he joined the club’s board of directors, and later was its chairman [4] . He also coached the team for a year and a half, leading it to victory in the state championship [1] .
Fantoni has three children - Fernando Jose [5] , Benito Romano [6] , both became footballers, and daughter of Gilda. Benito, born June 5, 1931, was named after Benito Mussolini : Mussolini, a fan of Lazio, before playing his club with Juventus , promised that if Juan scores a goal in this game, the Duce will take over hospital expenses for the newborn. Fantoni scored two. Mussolini kept his promise, and Juan, in gratitude, called his son the double name Benito Romano (the second part of the name in honor of Rome , where he was born) [7] .
