Zuiderze ( fr. Zuyderzée ) - the administrative unit of the First French Empire , located on part of the lands of the modern Netherlands provinces of North Holland and Utrecht . The department is named for Zuiderze Bay.

The department was created on January 1, 1811, after the Kingdom of Holland was annexed by France.
After the defeat of Napoleon, these lands became part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands .
