Biography
Born on October 9, 1910 in Moscow [2] . Karaim [3] . Father - Boris Islaakovich Katlama, was a member of the boards of the Laferm Tobacco Factory Partnership (St. Petersburg) and the Dukat Tobacco Factory Partnership (Moscow) [4] . After the revolution, B.I. Katlama founded paper business in Estonia. Next, the family emigrated to France. Here Alexander Katlama went in for basketball : he played in the team of the Russian Basketball Club, and in the 1930s - for the French team [5] . He received the specialty of an aircraft engineer. In 1939 he participated in the European Basketball Championship . In the same year he was drafted into the French army. After the capture of Belgium by Nazi Germany, he fled from France to England, where he joined the army of General de Gaulle . He participated in airborne operations in France to communicate with partisans and for subversive actions. In 1944 he was an instructor in partisan detachments. He was awarded the Order of the Legion of Honor, the Military Cross with a palm branch, the Medal of Resistance, the British Royal Medal "For courage in defending the cause of freedom." Since 1948 - Chairman of the Board of the Commonwealth of Reservists of the French Army [5] .
He died on January 13, 1990 in Paris.
