In the 1970s, the Group was one of the most powerful radical left organizations in Austria, and among students it competed on equal terms with the Austrian Communist Party and new social movements, such as the movement against Zventendorf NPP and against neo-Nazis. From 1972 to 1980, she published the Red Front magazine. Conducted campaigns in support of the socialist opposition in the countries of the eastern bloc, the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua, the gay and lesbian movement.
In the 1980s, the Group’s influence began to decline and it participated in the elections as part of green lists and alternative lists with a green party . The last time she participated in the 2004 European Parliament elections was with the Left .
A member of the group was a famous journalist and political scientist Robert Misic .
