Vincent from Kelchy

Vincent from Kelczy , aka Vincent from Kielce ( Polish: Wincenty z Kielczy, Wincenty z Kielc ; born c. 1200 - d. After 1263 ) - Polish priest , poet , first known Polish composer .

The exact place of birth is unknown. The city of Kielce and the Silesian village of Kielce are claiming the right to call him “their”. Since about 1222, he was chaplain of the Bishop of Krakow, Ivo Odrovonga. In 1257 he became a canon of Krakow, in 1258 - 1260 he was a prior of the Dominican monastery in Raciborz .

The author of two versions of the life of Bishop Stanislav of Krakow : Vita minor for the canonization of this bishop and Vita maior as a political declaration of the idea of uniting Poland, fragmented into princedoms - it could again become one, just as according to legend miraculously connected parts of the body of the bishop, chopped up by King Boleslav Smely .

He is considered the author of the Dominican Chronicle - a chronicle of the history of Poland, from which Jan Dlugosh could draw information, which itself has not been preserved. Perhaps Vincent was the first to call King Meshko II a loafer ( Gnuśnym ), despite the king's very high education, his attempts at active politics and the more general, international causes of the state crisis. Such an unfair assessment of the king for a long time remained widespread.

Vincent is the first known by the name of Polish composer. The author of the official office of Historia gloriosissimi Stanislai (also known as Dies adest celebris ), composed for the bishop’s transfer to the altar ( Latin translatio corporis ) to the altar ( 1254 ) [1] . The official part includes the famous Polish song Gaude Mater Polonia , which the knights sang after a successful battle.
