Geography
The village is located on the right bank of the Mackenzie River , at an altitude of 73 m above sea level.
Population
According to the 2011 census, the population of the village was 727 people [1] . According to the last census of 2006, it numbered 761 people. 300 people were representatives of the indigenous peoples of Canada, of which 165 people were Indians , 110 people were Métis, and 25 people were Inuit [2] . The main languages of the population are slaves and English [3] .
The average age of the village’s population is 33.2 years, which is slightly higher than the average for the Northwest Territories of 31.2 years [1] .
Economics and Transport
The largest employer in Norman Wells is the Canadian oil company Imperial Oil , which has been present in this region since 1937, when an oil refinery was built here [3] .
In summer, Norman Wells can be reached by the Mackenzie River, and in winter by the winter road that connects Wrigley and Fort Simpson. At the same time, the main way to get into the village is small aircraft. Norman Wells Airport takes regular flights from Yellowknife and Inuvik [3] . In summer, there is also a water airfield.
