Biography
Born on September 28 ( October 11 in a new style) 1901 in St. Petersburg.
From 1911 to 1919 he studied at St. Petersburg gymnasium No. 12. In 1921 he entered and graduated from the 1st Leningrad Medical Institute in 1926. He was one of the organizers of the Far Eastern Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, where he worked in 1932-1934. Since 1934, he again lived in Moscow and worked at the Institute of Microbiology of the Academy of Sciences (until 1986). Meisel was one of the founders of the Institute of Molecular Biology of the Academy of Sciences, where he worked in 1959-1987. In 1946-1962, he simultaneously worked at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Biology, Moscow University . In 1971-1975 he was president of the All-Union Microbiological Society. Member of the CPSU since 1961.
He lived in Moscow on 1st Meshchanskaya Street, 90/96 (now Mira Avenue , 70-a) and on Gubkin Street , 4. He died in Moscow on March 18, 1987 . He was buried in the columbarium of the Novodevichy cemetery (section 131-3-4). [2]
