Description
The museum was opened in November 1989 as a public organization. In 1992, by decree of the Ministry of Culture of Russia, the institution was awarded the honorary title of “People's Museum”. In 1996, the museum received a grant from the Soros Foundation to improve the material and technical equipment of the museum. Since 1998, the museum "House on the Embankment" has been operating as a municipal museum of local lore.
For 12 years, museum workers have accumulated a lot of materials about the history of the house and its inhabitants, in particular documents, photographs, household appliances, books and interior details. The museum was visited by thousands of people; several hundred excursions were organized.
Today, the museum is run by Olga Romanovna Trifonova, the wife of the late writer Yu. V. Trifonov . An employee of the museum is Tatyana Ivanovna Schmidt , daughter of I.V. Tovstukha - personal assistant of I.V. Stalin .
It is the only one in Russia and one of several museums in the world dedicated to one house. An attempt was made to recreate the authentic living environment of the 1930s. At one time, many residents of the house were subjected to repression. Political and public figures, military leaders, artists, writers and scientists lived there.
