The Beer - Aronov - Picus effect is an increase in the interaction cross sections for diffusion processes. The effect is explained by the fact that, despite the high speed of the particle at each moment of time, due to diffusion processes, its time-average position moves much more slowly. For example, a diffusion cloud of an electron passes rather slowly past a hole. This significantly increases the cross section of the interaction.
It is the dominant mechanism of spin relaxation of electrons in strained films. [one]
Hamiltonian corresponding to the mechanism:
where proportional to the exchange integral between the states of the conduction band and the valence band; - spin electron operator; - operator of the angular momentum of holes; Is the relative distance of the electron hole. [2]
