Luca Zaia ( Italian: Luca Zaia ; born March 27, 1968 , Conegliano , province of Treviso , region of Venice ) is an Italian politician, Minister of Agriculture in the fourth government of Berlusconi (2008-2010), president of the region of Venice (since 2010).

Biography
Luca Zaya was born on March 27, 1968 in Conegliano, the son of a mechanic. In his youth he worked as a waiter, janitor, mason, equestrian instructor, public relations specialist at one of the discos. In 1993 he graduated in veterinary medicine at the University of Udine , is also an oenologist . After university, he was elected to the communal council of Godega di Sant Urbano from the League of the North . In 1998 and 2002 he was elected president of the province of Treviso (at the age of 30 he turned out to be the youngest president of the province in Italy), from 2005 to 2008 he was vice president of the region of Venice [1] [2] .
In the fourth government of Berlusconi, Luca Zaya worked as Minister of Agriculture from May 8, 2008 to April 15, 2010 [3] .
On March 28-29, 2010, local elections took place in the Venice region, in which Zaya led the center-right coalition with the participation of the League of the North , the People of Freedom and the Center Alliance - Christian Democrats, who won with a score of 60.15%. The strongest of the six rivals - the center-left coalition led by Giuseppe Bortolussi, which was based on the Democratic Party , received 29.07% of the vote, and Zaya became president of the region [4] .
March 16-21, 2014, in the Venice region, a referendum on independence was initiated by Gianluca Busato. According to the organizers, about 63% of the residents took part in it, 89% of whom voted for independence. The Italian authorities did not recognize the referendum as legal, and Luca Zaya, who was the president of the region, called it a “public opinion poll” [5] (critics based on a review of the data of the server on which the voting took place concluded that in reality about 10% of the amount declared by the organizers, and a large number of votes came from Chile and Spain ) [6] .
On May 31, 2015, the next local elections were held in Venice, at which Zaya headed the center-right coalition consisting of: Zaya list, League of the North, Forward, Italy , Independence we Veneto, Indipendenza noi Veneto, Brothers of Italy and others. This association won with a total result of 50.08% of the vote, and the Zaia list (23.08%) made the largest contribution, beating the League of the North (17.82%). The coalition won 28 seats in the regional legislature out of 48, and Luka Zaya retained the post of president of the region [7] .
On October 22, 2017, a referendum on autonomous status was held in Veneto , as well as in Lombardy . The turnout exceeded 50%, and more than 90% of voters answered in the affirmative. Zaya in this regard stated, among other things, that the region requires him to leave more than 90% of taxes paid on his territory [8] .
On July 21, 2019, together with the Governor of Lombardy, Attilio Fontana , he published an open letter to Prime Minister Conte , promising to refuse support for any project to provide greater autonomy to the regions, “if it results in another farce” [9] .
Personal life
Luke Zaya is married but has no children; lives with his wife in Treviso in a house of 58 square meters. For the first time, it gained national fame in 2007, when it was fined 407 euros for speeding - it rode its BMW on the A27 motorway from Treviso to Venice at a speed of 193 km / h with a speed limit of 130 km / h (he claimed that he should was urgent to get to Venice due to natural disaster - tornado ). Even earlier, in 2006, he saved a certain Albanian from a burning car [1] .
