Air Force Marshal - the highest military rank in the air forces of a number of countries, corresponding to field marshal in the ground forces . It is an approximate analogue of the chief aviation marshal .
Such a title ( Royal Air Force Marshal ) was introduced for the first time in Great Britain in 1919 and assigned to Sir Hugh Trenchard for the first time in 1927 .
It is common in the countries of the British Commonwealth , in which it usually has a name of the type “Marshal N”, where “N” is the name of the air force of the corresponding country (for example, Marshal of the Australian Air Force ). In Brazil (previously also in Italy ) the corresponding rank is called “air marshal ”, while a similar rank in Portugal translates as “air marshal”.
