History

The Trierweiler areas formed at different times. The name Sirzenich was first mentioned as Sarceni in 975. Udelfangen Odolvinga was first mentioned in 1030. Trierweiler comes from Villarium in monte (1202), and Fusenich - as Fusenich auf Vosene since 1259. The area around Trierweiler in past centuries was often used for settlement: for example, the remains of Roman and Frankish settlements were found in Sirzenich. Udelfangen is known for its sandstone, which, among other things, was used in the construction of the Reichstag in Berlin and delivered abroad, is a popular natural building material.

The formation of today's commune began on March 20, 1971 with the union of the Sirzenich and Trierweiler communities. On March 16, 1974, two previously independent communities Fusenich and Udelfangen were annexed to them. [2]
