It is part of the Rhine-Hunsruck district. Submits to the management of Zimmern . The population is 251 people ( as of December 31, 2006 ). The official code is 07 1 40 002 .
Title
Until the sixteenth century, the commune bore the names Widelbach and Weidelbach , which mean a willow stream . The prefix alt (old) was added to distinguish Altweidelbach from other communes.
History
Archaeological excavations show that the area was inhabited during the Roman Empire . Then the Romans built the “ Stone Way ” road , which passed through these lands. The first mention of the Altweidelbach commune dates back to 1006 . In 1794, the commune was thoroughly looted by the French occupiers. In 1866 , 1897 and 1975, severe fires occurred in these places. The First World War took the lives of 10 residents of Altweidelbach, two were missing. During the Second World War 4 people died, three went missing. In 2006, the commune celebrated its 1000th anniversary.
Demographics
In the XVII century, the population declined sharply to 7 families, which contributed to the Thirty Years War and the plague. In 1698, the population was 58 people.
