Career

Silva Batuta began his career at the age of 15 at the São Paulo Club. After spending two seasons there, he went on loan to Batatais [5] . After spending six months there, the footballer was sold to the Botafogo club. Two years later, Batuta became a Corinthians player, making his team debut on May 21, 1962 in a match with the former team, Botafogo [6] . There he received from football commentator Georges Curie his nickname, Trampoline, in honor of the “trampolines,” the stick of the conductor who served to beat the beat [1] . In Corinthians, the Tutu performed for 4 seasons, having played 143 matches (140 in some sources) and scored 89 goals.

In 1965, Silva moved to the Flamengo club, looking for a replacement for Gerson [2] . In the first season, he helped the club win the Rio de Janeiro state championship , becoming the team’s top scorer. [7] The following season, he also became the “Fla” top scorer, scoring 12 goals, but the club took second place [8] . In Flamengo, he also made close friends with Almir Pernambuccino [2] , who left the club after leaving the Trampoline.

In 1966, Silva was bought by Barcelona for 180 thousand dollars with a salary of 20 thousand dollars a year [9] . But in those years, the club did not have the right to declare foreign players, because of which the player played for Barca only in friendly matches [10] . Moreover, even the club president, Enrique Liaudet, insulted him, saying: “If you cannot play, then I will use you as a driver. I always wanted a black driver ” [9] . The football player returned to Brazil, to the Santos club, but there he spent only a season in which the club won the state championship [5] .

In 1966, Silva again became a Flamengo player, and in the first game upon his return, he scored three goals on Maracan in a match with Cruzeiro in the presence of 180 thousand spectators [11] . In 1968, the striker became the Fla’s top scorer for the third time, hitting rivals 11 times in the Rio Championship [12] . In total, the player played there for a year and a half, scoring for the club, a total of 68 goals in 132 games [5] . In 1969, the Trampoline became a player in the Argentine Racing . He scored the first goal for the club in a match with Estudiantes , and scored 18 goals for the club in 28 matches, of which 14 in the Metropolitan, making him the top scorer of the tournament [10] .

Returning to Brazil, Batuta became a player in the Vasco da Gama club, with whom he became the champion of the state of Rio. He played on loan at Botafogo and Rio Negro from Manaus , and then returned to Vasco [13] . Then the footballer moved to the Colombian Atletico Junior . Silva Batuta completed his career in the Venezuelan Tikere-Canarias team in 1975 [2] . Having completed his career as a player, Walter worked as a coach and assistant coach at Flamengo, as well as a club scout. In 1995, he graduated from UNISUAM Law School. In recent years, he has been working as a librarian at Flamengo headquarters [14]

Personal life

Trampoline is married. With his wife Martha, they celebrated the 50th anniversary of the marriage in 2014 . They have three children [2] .
