Camponotus turkestanus (lat.) Is a species of earthen ants of the genus Camponotus from the subfamily Formicina ( Formicidae ).

Distribution
Central Palaearctic: Afghanistan , Israel , Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan , China , Mongolia , Russia ( Astrakhan Oblast ), Turkmenistan . Semideserts , steppes [1] [2] [3] [4] .
Description
Earth ants. Head , breast and abdomen are mostly yellow. Medium in size, workers and soldiers 5-12 mm long; females - 12-13 mm; males - 7-8 mm. The scape of the antennae is long, extends beyond the occipital margin of the head. The underside of the head without hairs. On cheeks, shins of legs and on a skapus there are no separated hairs. The anterior margin of the clypeus with a rectangular lobe that projects forward beyond the front corners of the head. The chest in profile is uniformly convex. Propodeum without transverse impression, round and without epinotal spines or teeth. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of one segment ( petiolus ), bearing a vertical scale. Nests in earthen anthills (nests with a complex surface-horizontal system). Night zoonocrophage. The mating season of winged sexual individuals (young females and males) is observed in June, August [1] [2] [5] [3] .
Systematics
The species was first described in 1882 under the original name Camponotus sylvaticus var. turkestanus André, 1882 and in 1925, was included in the subgenus Tanaemyrmex together with species such as Camponotus turkestanicus , Camponotus aethiops , Camponotus xerxes and Camponotus fedtschenkoi [1] [2] [6] .
