Marrel`s anchor ( English Marrel`s anchor ) - a forged anchor without a rod, with rotating horns, "taking" the soil simultaneously with two legs, like most modern anchors.
Invented in 1856 by the French engineer Marreille, one of the first retractable anchors designed for ships equipped with anchor locks . It was distinguished by straight horns with very wide spade-shaped paws, which allowed them to quickly strengthen in the ground. The anchor was repeatedly modernized, the horns were bent and tides appeared on the box (Marrel-Frere anchor), the devices for restricting the rotation of the horns (Marrel-Rizbek anchor) changed. The Marrel anchor was quite widespread in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and its modern modifications (MAF anchor) are still used today.
