The 2008 VNBA Draft was held on April 9 , on Wednesday, at the Tampa , Florida , golf resort club ( Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club ), which became the third VNBA draft held outside of New Jersey [1] . Players after the graduation from the college and foreign players were allowed to participate in the draft. The lottery draft was held on October 23, 2007 , according to which the Los Angeles Sparks Club received the right to choose under the first number, which he used for 21-year-old Candace Parker , a defender from the University of Tennessee [2] [3] . In addition, the draft ceremony itself was held the day after the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament final match ( Tennessee Lady Volantirs - Stanford Cardinal 64:48), which was also played in Tampa at the St. Pete Times Forum .

In the 2008 season, 14 clubs took part, one more than in the past , because the Atlanta Dream team joined the VNBA off-season. As a result of the increase in the number of association teams, the so-called expansion draft took place, which took place on February 6, 2008 [4] . The first round of the draft was broadcast on ESPN2 , while the second and third rounds were shown on NBA TV and ESPNU .
A total of 43 players were selected for this draft, 39 of them from the USA and one each from Ukraine ( Valeria Berezhinsk ), from Nigeria ( Olayinka Sunny ), Sweden ( Chioma Namaka ) and Poland ( Izabela Pikarska ). Forward Lara Sanders (born Latoya Pringle ) was born in the German city of Nuremberg , since 2010 she has played in the championship of Turkey , and in 2013 she took dual citizenship to play for the national team of this country . Leilani Mitchell also has dual citizenship because her father is American and her mother is Australian .

The Detroit Shock team won the eleventh number in the first round back in February 2007 as a result of the exchange of Katie Finstra-Matter for Ruth Riley at San Antonio Silver Stars .
The San Antonio Silver Stars club won the twenty-first number in the second round during the previous draft as a result of the sale of Becky Hammon to New York Liberty .
- On February 6, 2008, Atlanta Dream exchanged the fourth issue of the draft in Seattle Storm , along with Ronika Hodges, for the eighth issue of the draft, and Isiana Castro Marquez .
- On February 6, 2008, Atlanta Dream traded the eighteenth issue of the draft together with Latoya Thomas in Detroit Shock for Ivory Latte .
- On February 19, 2008, the Seattle Storm team sold the fourth issue of the draft in Detroit Shock at Pig Cash .
- On February 19, 2008, the Connecticut Sun club purchased the twelfth number of the draft pick from Indiana Fiver as a result of the exchange of Tamiki Whitmore for Katie Douglas [5] .
