Criticism

V.V. Kuptsov . ANT-20 Maxim Gorky. 1934. Timing

In the introductory article of the senior researcher of the Russian Museum I.V. Ginzburg to the exhibition catalog, it is noted that the exhibition showed “the Leningrad iso-front in all its creative diversity”, its origins and searches, “starting from the numerous remnants of Russian academism and impressionism or not less frequent submission to post-Impressionist French culture and ending with experiments in creating the monumental art of sculpture and frescoes and a noticeable increase in the realistic portrait and landscape. ” [9]

The famous art historian V. A. Ushakova in a 2003 review article “The Past and Present of the Leningrad - St. Petersburg Union of Artists” calls the First Exhibition of Leningrad Artists of 1935 a program for the young LOSSX association. And there he notes the following feature of Leningrad art revealed by the exhibition: “Sometimes very dissimilar to each other in aesthetic views and style, the artists retained some internal commonality and fundamental unity, which made it possible to talk in general about the peculiar phenomenon of artistic culture connected by traditional continuity.” [ ten]

According to another famous historian of Leningrad art A. G. Raskin , who set out in 1999 in the article “Connection of Times”, the main participants in the First Exhibition of Leningrad Artists of 1935 “became a new unified creative organization. It was at this moment that relations with the traditions of the St. Petersburg school arose, which were passed like a baton from hand to hand and highlight much in the future development of Russian art. Moreover, almost all the participants in this significant exhibition have become mentors in the art of the young generation. ” [11] In the same place, A. G. Raskin calls the participants of the First Exhibition of Leningrad Artists of 1935 the “founding fathers” of LOSSH, whose works constituted one of the eternal layers of Russian art. ” [12]
