“The Best European Film” is one of the categories of the Polish film award “Eagles” . This category first appeared at the VII Orlov awards ceremony, which took place on March 5, 2005 (for 2004 films ).
The award in this category is awarded to the director of the film. A European film (non-Polish) can apply for the award, which meets the following criteria: it is a full-length film (at least 50 minutes of screen time), it was shown in general, paid distribution in Poland for at least a week, from January 1 to 31 December of the year preceding the ceremony.
The films of the directors were nominated twice: Michael Haneke ( Austria ) (2 awards), Pedro Almodovar ( Spain ) (1 award), Andrei Zvyagintsev ( Russia ) (1 award), Paolo Sorrentino ( Italy ) (1 award) and Lars von Trier ( Denmark ) (did not win any awards).
