History
The birth date of the plant is considered to be January 7, 1943, when the first Siberian aluminum was smelted. [2]
During the Great Patriotic War, the plant produced about 28 thousand tons of aluminum. Every second Soviet attack aircraft , fighter and bomber were made of Kuznetsk aluminum. [3]
From 1943 to 2018, the plant produced over 16 million tons of aluminum.
In 1993, the state-owned enterprise NkAZ was transformed into the open type joint-stock company Novokuznetsk Aluminum Plant, on November 7, 1995, the Su-15 monument was erected on the square in front of the plant, from 1997 to 2001 the plant was part of Mikom [4] , and since 2001, JSC Novokuznetsk Aluminum Plant is part of RUSAL (since March 2007 - Russian Aluminum ).
In 2001, the plant received a certificate of compliance of the quality management system with the requirements of the international standard ISO 9001.
In 2006, the plant received a certificate of compliance of the quality management system with the requirements of the international standard ISO 16949.
In 2007, the plant received a certificate of conformity of the environmental quality management system with the requirements of the international standard ISO 14001.
In 2007, the plant received a certificate of conformity of the OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety management system.
In 2017, the plant received a certificate of compliance of the quality management system with the requirements of the international standard IATF / TS 16949.
Production
Currently, the capacity of NkAZ is more than 200 thousand tons per year. Over 60% of the plant’s products are alloys, including multicomponent ones. Aluminum at NkAZ is produced in electrolyzers with self-baking anodes based on Soderberg technology (S-2, S-3 and S-8BM) and RUSAL's own electrolyzers working on the technologies “Prebaked Anode” (RA-167) and “Eco-friendly Soderberg” (S-8BME).
Production structure:
- electrolysis production (6 buildings),
- anode paste production site,
- foundry department
- support units.
The plant produces products for the electrical and aviation industries, for enterprises manufacturing building structures, engines and automotive components. The plant manufactures products for the electrical and aviation industries, for enterprises manufacturing building structures, engines and automotive components: KUMZ OJSC (Kamensk-Uralsky), AVTOVAZ OJSC (Togliatti), URAL FOIL OJSC (g . Mikhailovsk), TATPROF JSC (Naberezhnye Chelny), KAMAZ JSC (Naberezhnye Chelny), EM-CAT LLC (Saransk), FEDERAL-MOGUL LLC (Naberezhnye Chelny) UMZ OJSC (Ulyanovsk), NEMAK RUS LLC Ulyanovsk, RosALit Foundry LLC (Zavolzhye), BARNAULTRANSMASH OJSC (Barnaul). Also The plant’s products are exported to many countries of the world - Turkey, Greece, Poland, the Netherlands, USA, Japan, etc.
In 2007, the foundry was modernized: two rotary mixers with high-power MHD mixers were installed, a Wagstaff casting machine for the production of cylindrical ingots, a Hertwich homogenization furnace, and a Brochot metal casting line.
Modernization:
At the moment, the Novokuznetsk aluminum smelter is undergoing modernization of the main production aimed at improving economic performance while reducing the environmental burden. The modernization program includes:
- technical re-equipment of electrolysis bodies No. 7, 8, 9, 10 with the installation of electrolyzers with prebaked anodes (type RA-167);
- technical re-equipment of electrolysis vessels No. 11,12 with the installation of electrolytic cells with a self-burning anode “Eco-friendly Soderberg” (type S-8BME);
- the construction of gas cleaning units with a dry cleaning method and the connection of newly installed electrolysers to them. As of January 2019, the company has one dry gas purification unit; two more are under construction.
Ecology
Between 2011 and 2018, the Novokuznetsk Aluminum Plant almost halved the amount of emissions and waste disposed of at the landfill, and water consumption - by 6 times.
In order to rationally use water resources, in 2013, a closed water circulation system was built at NkAZ. Its launch allowed to completely eliminate wastewater discharge into the Kulianovka River. Water supply of the plant is based on the principle of repeated use of water, with the organization of water recycling systems.
The priority area of environmental activity of the Novokuznetsk Aluminum Plant is the introduction of technologies: annealed anode (RA-167) and Eco-friendly Soderberg; construction in the electrolysis production of "dry" gas purifications.
