Geography
The city is located 27 km east of Hooper Bay . It is located in a low-lying area on the right bank of the Ninglikfak River (Central -Yupik. Ninglikfak ) in the so-called Yukon and Kuskokuim . The area of the city is 3.0 km².
In Chevak, there is a wind farm consisting of four wind generators .
History
The city was incorporated on October 13, 1967 [2] .
Population
According to the 2000 census, the population of the city was 765 people [3] . Racial Composition: Native Americans - 90.46%; white - 3.66%; representatives of other races - 0.13% and representatives of two or more races - 5.75%. Most of the population speaks the Central Yupik language .
Of the 167 households, 64.1% raised children under the age of 18, 41.3% were married couples living together, in 20.4% of the families women lived without husbands, 22.2% did not have a family. 19.2% of the total number of households at the time of the census lived independently, while 0.6% were single elderly people aged 65 years and older. On average, 4.58 people lead a household, and the average family size is 5.38.
The proportion of people under the age of 18 years is 51.8%; persons aged 18 to 24 years - 8.8%; from 25 to 44 years old - 23.9%; from 45 to 64 years old - 11.5% and persons over 65 years old - 4.1%. The average age of the population is 17 years. For every 100 females there are 113.7 males; for every 100 females age 18 and over, 113.3 males.
The average income on a joint venture is $ 26,875; the average household income is $ 27,375. The average per capita income is $ 7,550. About 26.7% of families and 29.5% of the population live below the poverty line, including 32.5% of people under the age of 18 and 13.3% of people over 65.
