Born in Panten in Bobigny County . He studied judo and jujutsu from many Japanese masters. In 1951, he won the first ever European judo championship. In 1954 he again became the champion of Europe. In 1955 he became the champion of France. In 1956, he participated in the first ever judo world championship, but could not win medals. In 1957, he again became the champion of France. In 1958, at the second in the history of the world judo championship, he won the bronze medal. In 1959, he again became the champion of France.
