Biography

Milena Pavlovich-Barili was born on November 5, 1909 in the city of Pozharevac ( Serbia ). Her father, Bruno Barili , was a composer, music critic and poet. [3] Her mother, Danichi Pavlovich, came from the Karageorgievich dynasty and studied art. In 1922-1926, Milena studied art at the Royal School of Art in Belgrade , and in 1926-1928 in Munich .

In the early 1930s, Milena left Serbia. Before the start of World War II, she several times briefly came to Serbia. She spent most of her time in Spain , Rome , Paris and London , where she had the opportunity to communicate with Jean Cocteau and Andre Breton . Milena fell under the influence of many Western schools of art and artists, in particular Giorgio de Chirico . After 1939, Milena lived in New York .

Milena died on March 6, 1945 . Among the causes of death were a fall from a horse and a heart attack [3] .

Creativity

The subjects of her works are diverse - these are portraits and interpretations of biblical subjects. Among the motifs are veils, angels, statues of Venus and harlequins . Many of her works are constantly exhibited in Rome , New York , Belgrade , as well as in her hometown of Pozharevac . The house in which she was born was turned into a museum in 1962 [3] .
