Hromoumundartur ( Isle. Hrómundartindur ) is a volcano in the south-west of Iceland in the municipality Grímsnes og Grafningur. The volcano is located between the lake Tingvlavlavatn and the city of Hveragerdi . The composition of the stratovolcano includes 2 volcanic cones and one thermal source [1] .

For a long time, the volcano was attributed to the Hengidl volcano system , but now Khromyundartindyur has its own magma chamber. Thus, the volcano belongs to a separate volcanic system. Hengidl and Hroumündarthindyur arose under glaciers during the Ice Age.
Hroumundartindur formed both pillow lava and andesitic rocks.
The Tjarnarhnjúkur slag cone belonging to the same volcanic system experienced a recent eruption 9,000 years ago. As a result, a lava field was formed that blocked the flow of a small glacial lake, the predecessor of the modern lake Tingvlavlavatn.
At the foot of the mountain and on its slopes, as well as on the slopes of Tjarnarhnjúkur, there are areas of elevated temperature. The central geothermal zone is located on the Hedlisheidi plateau.
The volcanic zone in this area is undergoing a bend: the Brennteinusfjöll system extends from west to east, the Hengidl system extends from southwest to northeast. Also here is an active rift zone, meeting with the southern transform zone , reaching in the east the Hekla volcano and the Mirdalsjökull glacier.
The area around Hroumundartindur and the adjacent systems of the Hengidl and Grensdalur volcanoes is subject to constant change, being near the rift zone of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. In recent years, new elevations have arisen in the system, especially after the earthquakes of 1994, 2000 and 2008.
