Geography
Borough area is 17,234 km², of which 12,582 km² is occupied by land and 4,649 km² is occupied by open water [4] . Previously, only Revilyahihedo Island was part of the borough, but on May 19, 2008, a significant part of the former Prince of Wales census zone, Outer Ketchikan, was added to the Ketchikan-Gateway borough. Thus, the area of boron increased significantly.
Borders on the Prince of Wales Census Area - Hyder (in the southwest and east), Borough Wrangell (in the northwest) and the Canadian province of British Columbia (in the east and south).
On the territory of borough are the Tongass National Forest (partially) and the Misty Fjords National Monument.
Population
According to the 2010 census , the borough population is 13,477 people. The population density is 1.1 people / km². The racial makeup of boron includes 68.7% of the whites ; 0.7% black , or African American ; 14.3% of Native Americans ; 7.1% of Asians ; 0.2% of people from the Pacific Islands ; 0.7% of representatives of other races and 8.3% of representatives of two or more races. 4.3% of all races are Hispanic . 3.31% of the population speak Tagalog at home and 1.65% speak Spanish [5] .
The average household income is $ 61,695 and the average household income is $ 45,417. The average per capita income is $ 29,520.
According to the data for 2000, out of 5399 households, 36.8% have children under the age of 18, 51.5% are married couples living together, 11.3% are women living without husbands, and 32.7% do not have families. 26.1% of all households consist of separate residents, in 6.2% of households live single people aged 65 years and older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.10.
The age structure of the population was as follows: 28.2% - under the age of 18; 7.5% - from 18 to 24 years old; 31.4% - from 25 to 44 years old; 25.1% - from 45 to 64 years old and 7.9% - aged 65 years and older.
