Borough area is 17,234 km², of which 12,582 km² is occupied by land and 4,649 km² is occupied by open water [4] . Previously, only Revilyahihedo Island was part of the borough, but on May 19, 2008, a significant part of the former Prince of Wales census zone, Outer Ketchikan, was added to the Ketchikan-Gateway borough. Thus, the area of ​​boron increased significantly.

Borders on the Prince of Wales Census Area - Hyder (in the southwest and east), Borough Wrangell (in the northwest) and the Canadian province of British Columbia (in the east and south).

On the territory of borough are the Tongass National Forest (partially) and the Misty Fjords National Monument.
