Description

By profession, Tyler Durden is a seller of soap , which is made from human fat stolen from a liposuction clinic to achieve the best effect.

Previously, he worked as a projectionist at cinemas, where porno shots were glued into family paintings between episodes, and as a waiter in a restaurant where he mercilessly mocked visitors - he urinated in soup and defecated in mushroom puree. He lives in an abandoned house , which is intended for demolition, where rusty water flows from a tap, and during rain it is necessary to turn off all electricity, the house is full of old magazines and books. Tyler is a nonconformist , nihilist and anarcho-primitivist who rejects consumer culture and the foundations of modern Western society, such as wage slavery , which Tyler contrasts with the protagonist - the "narrator", which is a typical example of a white-collar and consumer . Together they organized the Fight Club, where people come and beat each other, which is a radical psychotherapy, but later Tyler reorganized the club into an extremist group (the rout “The rout”).

Role in the plot

In a novel where the plot is not given in chronological order, Tyler first appears in the first chapter when he holds a gun in the Storyteller's mouth and says that they will have to die in order to become immortal. And the actual appearance takes place in chapter 3, which tells about the first meeting of the Storyteller and Tyler. The narrator falls asleep on a nudist beach, and when he wakes up, he sees Tyler, who bury the logs standing in the sand so that the shadows from the logs form in the shape of a giant hand, in order to sit for one minute in the shadow of perfection. Tyler appears again in Chapter 6 after the Storyteller needed housing after the explosion of his apartment. They meet in a bar, and when they get out of it Tyler asks the main character to hit him, and then he hits him. After a fight ensues, Tyler comes up with the idea of a fight club.

Movie Character

In cinema literature, Tyler Durden is interpreted as a clot of that layer of the psyche, which is known in psychoanalysis as Ono , with a pinch of Nietzsche , necessary for him to aphoristically express his views [3] . “Dyurden swirls through the hermetically sealed, neat life of the protagonist as a tonic, disruptive element that rebels against the fabricated and mediocrity of modern life” [4] . The basis of his worldview is the death drive : "Self-improvement is nothing more than masturbation , self-destruction - this is what really matters" [3] . There is something demonic about Dörden's appeal. It is no coincidence that for most of the film we see him in a leather jacket the color of hellish flame. He appears in the film in the 25th frame - as a photo of the penises , which he, at leisure, for fun, pastes into children's films [5] . By occupation, he is associated with the cinema and seductive - like the movie itself, scrolled in the head of the Storyteller [5] .
