Serboi

Serboi ( Greek Σέρβοι , Sérboi ; Lat. Serboi ), Sirboi ( lat. Sirboi ) - an ethnonym mentioned by ancient geographers . He designated the Iranian tribe [1] , who lived in Asian Sarmatia somewhere north of the Caucasus and west of the Volga .

Initial mentions in the Caucasus region

Pliny the Younger in his work Plinii Caecilii Secundi Historia naturalis in 69-75 years of our era mentions a people called Serbs ( Latin Serbi ) [2] , living near the Cimmerians , probably in the Black or Azov Sea .

Around 175 AD, the Egyptian scientist Claudius Ptolemy mentions in Geography a people called Serboi or Sirboi , who probably lived outside the Caucasus, from the inner side of the Caspian Sea , that is, in the area of ​​modern Astrakhan .
