History

The chamber choir “Old Russian Chant” was created by Anatoly Grindenko in 1983. The place of creation of the choir is the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius .

In 1985, with the blessing of Metropolitan Pitirim of Volokolamsk and Kolomensk, the choir was transformed into a "choir of the publishing department of the Moscow Patriarchate."

The choir "Old Russian Chant" performs Russian liturgical singing of different times and styles. The main part of the choir's works has not been performed before. The choir participates in divine services , performing Old Russian singing ranks of the XVI - XVII centuries .

The choir performs at domestic and international competitions and festivals. Has records at Opus W.

The singing of the choir is recorded on 13 CD. Records of the choir have also been awarded the international critics of Diapason magazine.

The choir leader Anatoly Grindenko took part in folklore expeditions to the southern and northern regions of Russia. On expeditions, he recognized Old Believer traditions, studied canonical iconography , and collected old icons . He gave the knowledge he received to the choir, which made it possible for the "Old Russian Chant" to become one of the leading groups in the field of performance of Russian church music .

Currently, the choir is part of the Synodal Department of Religious Education and Catechesis . There are 12 singers in the choir.

The chorus “Old Russian Chant” performed and recorded works by composers of a new direction in Russian sacred music of the late XIX - early XX centuries: P. G. Chesnokov , A. D. Kastalsky , N. S. Golovanov , chants of the Supradustrial monastery of the XVI century, “Christmas Christ ”, monastery chants of the XVI-XVII centuries (to Augustus, the one-sovereign on earth, Your Christmas, Christ our God, Canto 1 — Christ is born, praise, Canto 4 — Rod from the root of Jesse, etc.).
