Geography

The city is located on the north coast of the Gudnews Bay, at the mouth of the Gudnews River, 187 km south of Bethel , 180 km northwest of Dillingham and 640 km west of Anchorage [2] . The area of ​​the city is 9.6 km², all of which is land [1] .

History

The city was incorporated on July 9, 1970 [3] .

Population

According to the 2000 census, the population of the city was 230 people [4] . Racial Composition: Native Americans - 92.61%; whites - 5.65% and representatives of two or more races - 1.74%.

Of 71 households, 45.1% raised children under the age of 18, 31.0% were cohabiting couples, women lived without husbands in 23.9% of families, 32.4% did not have a family. 32.4% of the total number of households at the time of the census lived independently, while 4.2% were single elderly people aged 65 years and older. On average, 3.24 people are households, and the average family size is 4.04 people.

The proportion of people under the age of 18 is 36.1%; persons aged 18 to 24 years - 10.4%; from 25 to 44 years old - 28.3%; from 45 to 64 years old - 17.4% and persons over 65 years old - 7.8%. The average age of the population is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 105.4 males; for every 100 females age 18 and over - 122.7 males.

The average income for a joint venture is $ 16,250; the average household income is $ 21,563. The average per capita income is $ 6,851. About 37.8% of families and 39.0% of the population live below the poverty line, including 53.3% of people under the age of 18 and 0% of people over 65.
