History

The estate belonged to the princes Dolgoruky. Nearby were the estates of the Volkonsky and Gagarin, merchant mansions. The house was set in the back of the property, a large front yard separated it from the road, and a vast garden was built in the estate. Opposite the house was the Trinity Church in Syromyatniki, demolished in the 1930s. Currently, the house faces the 3rd Syromyatnichesky Lane [2] .

At the base of the preserved house are the chambers of the 18th century, the architect of which in all probability is D. V. Ukhtomsky . In the 1770s, the estate housed a private boarding house of professor I. M. Shaden, in 1774-76, the historian and publisher Platon Petrovich Beketov studied here [2] .

At the end of the XVIII century, the merchants became the owners of the estate, first - P. Kh. Kolesnikov, after the war of 1812 - brothers Ivan and Nikolai Khalutinnikov. The next owner of the estate was the nobleman Friedrich Fridrihovich Birkel, the architect M. K. Geppener completed a project for him of a three-story tower, which was attached to the house on the left and significantly changed its appearance [2] .

The last owner of the house before the revolution was the second guild merchant, Roman Bogdanovich Shen, who sold wool yarn and was involved in charity work (he was one of the trustees and philanthropist of the Meshchansky guardianship of the poor). Under him, the main house of the estate changed beyond recognition, by his order the architects B. V. Freidenberg and V. I. Chagin turned the house with a turret into a kind of small Western European castle [2] .

In the early 2000s, the Avicenna private clinic was located on the estate, the name of which is located on the facade [2] .
