Biography

Peter Zubrov was born in the family of a famous St. Petersburg jeweler.

“I was preparing to be a goldsmith, but a passion for the theater carried him to the stage. In 1851 he made his debut on the Alexandrinsky stage, ”says the actor in the New Encyclopedic Dictionary of Brockhaus and Efron [1] .

In secret from his father, he made his debut on the theater stage, however, the first acting beginnings were unsuccessful. But this did not stop the future actor. Then, in order to distract his son from the theater, his father sent him abroad for three years. But when he returned home, he again began to try himself in the theater field and finally made his debut in the Alexandrinsky Theater .

On the stage adopted in 1850 . In 1854, Gordey Tortsov successfully played in Ostrovsky 's play “Poverty is not a vice,” after which he repeatedly played roles in his plays. Among the roles: Cheremukhin (comedy "Omut"); Quarterly (“Noble People”), Yagodkin (“Web”); Zakhar Zakharych in Ostrovsky 's comedy “In a Strange Feast Hangover” ; Nikashka in the drama of Pisemsky's “Bitter Fate”; Silantius in the "Hot Heart" ; The mayor in the "Examiner" ; The clerk in "Kashira antiquity"; Kuligin in the Storm ; Lucky in the "Forest" ; Veretennikov in the Fashionable Footman; Uncle in a Civil Marriage; The blacksmith in “Don't Live As You Want” ; The clerk in the "Deeps"; Father in “Profitable Article”; The German manager in the "Easy allowance", etc.

Zubrov is the author of several original and translated plays, of which the stage went: “Deaf to all fault” (vaudeville) and “Honest Word” (comedy).

The actor entered the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater until February 1873, “when, due to his frustrated health, he resigned,” according to Polovtsov’s Russian Biographical Dictionary [2] . “His last role was the role of Veretennikov in the one-act comedy Fashionable Footman, remade for the Russian scene by M. P. Fedorov.” It is also noted there: “Z.'s repertoire was very extensive, and his distinguishing feature in the game was his firm knowledge of the role that he had never played on the“ prompter ”.”
