Strumigenys sarissa (lat.) Is a species of small earthen ants from the subfamily Myrmicinae . Africa : Burundi , DRC , Rwanda , Uganda , Ethiopia . Small ants (about 1 mm) with a heart-shaped head, extended posteriorly. Propodeum angular with a pair of teeth. The maximum length of the hind femur is less than 0.65 mm. They have long mandibles (head width HW 0.50-0.70, mandibular index MI 51-55). Left mandible with 1 apical tooth. Head dorsum without distant hairs. All hairs of the front edge of the scape of the antennae are curved to its apex. Shoulder angles of pronotum with small thin protruding hairs. The preocular notch is developed: the ventrolateral edge of the head is depressed in front of the eyes so that the front of the eyes is separated from the sides of the head. The main color is tan. Mandibles long, narrow (with several teeth). The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, pupae are naked (without cocoon). Specialized coleball hunters. The species was first described in 1983 by the English worldmecologist Barry Bolton [1] [2] .
