Included in the Northwest Mecklenburg district . Submits to the management of Neuburg. The population is 1,161 people (2010). It covers an area of 30.21 km².
The commune is divided into 9 rural districts.
Excavations by the University of Kiel and the Archaeological Office of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern , carried out in 1995-1998 within the village of Blovac (Gross-Strömkendorf) on the east coast of Wismar Bay, Mecklenburg Bay , opened up a large part of a shopping center and adjacent 23 hectares burial grounds. Topographic location and dating (according to finds and dendrochronology ) quite accurately correspond to the time of the existence of Rerik. A more accurate definition, however, is not yet archaeologically possible, since any marine trading center of the Carolingian times can be fundamentally suitable [1] .
